EMR Kilmarnock offers continued support to local social enterprise MECOCO

Local social enterprise MECOCO has reaffirmed its partnership with metal recycler, EMR Kilmarnock, based on Burnside Street.

MECOCO, which stands for ‘meaningful contribution in your community’, is a social enterprise that offers work experience for disabled young people. They adapt their facilities, processes and products to enable them to fulfil their inclusive ideology of disabled and non-disabled individuals working side by side as colleagues.

The donation given by EMR Kilmarnock will enable MECOCO to buy uniforms for their 28 strong team, boosting the inclusive environment of the workshop and helping them to safely make a number of home accessories such as candles, reed diffusers and melts.

Anthony McCloughey, Operations Manager at EMR Kilmarnock said:

“Since partnering with MECOCO back in 2020 we have seen the amazing work that Jenny and her team do. The safe, inclusive space that they have created in their workshop enables young people, whom may have otherwise been unable to enter the workplace, to gain valuable work experience. We are proud to continue this partnership and to help MECOCO support young people within the local community.”

Having launched in 2020, EMR’s Young Futures Reimagined initiative has seen the metal recycler support charities, social enterprises and schools in their aim of helping young people to build brighter futures.

Jenny Trott, Director of MECOCO described the difference EMR Kilmarnock’s continued support will make:

“Creating a workplace where our team feel that they belong is core to our mission. Having the option to wear a uniform, to be visibly part of something is a great way to generate that feeling of belonging. Our volunteers are excited to start wearing their new tops, and we are extremely grateful to EMR’s initiative for making that happen.”
