Reconomy Group achieves ISO carbon reporting accreditation

Tech-led provider of circular economy focused services, Reconomy Group, has successfully achieved the ISO 140064 accreditation for the quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The audit process undertaken by Achilles involved the assessment of the full carbon impact and performance factors across the Reconomy Group. To better understand and strategically manage carbon emissions, all Reconomy Group businesses (up to 2021) used Achilles’ ‘Carbon Reduce’ software to record and report direct and indirect energy use. This inventory was then verified by qualified independent auditors in accordance with the international ISO standard.

Commenting on the accreditation Reconomy’s Head of Group Sustainability, Diane Crowe, said: “The Reconomy Group Carbon Strategy* maps out our path to net zero by 2028 for our direct emissions. Critical to the delivery of this strategy are a number of Science Based Targets which require the consistent and accurate production of data. Attaining the ISO 140064 accreditation demonstrates our commitment to a science led and data driven approach and gives us and our customers confidence in our carbon reporting.”

The process also identified several improvement opportunities and enabled plans to be put in place to manage and further reduce the Group’s carbon impact. Reduction targets will now be set for to include the Group’s most recent acquisitions, further improving the quality and accuracy of its Scope 3 (indirect) performance. A Group-wide workshop was held to set full science-based targets, share good practice and introduce a carbon data manual.  This will provide the basis for submission of these targets to the Science Based Targets Initiative, SBTi, to which the Group committed in early 2022.
